Long before it became a cozy country retreat, Scott & Betty's Place was a beloved landmark in southwest Oklahoma.
In 1956, John Fred Davis and his son, John Scott Davis, built a 1,000-square-foot structure with a simple vision. One half would serve as a bait and snack shop for locals and visitors, while the other half would be a comfortable home for their family of four.
For more than four decades, Scott and Betty Davis operated the bait shop as a gathering place for anglers, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts. The shop offered bait, tackle, snacks, Gulf gasoline, and boat storage, becoming a trusted stop for generations of lake visitors. They never sold alcohol and proudly remained a cash-only business, never accepting credit cards.
If you wanted to know where the fish were biting—or what they were biting on—Scott and Betty were the people to ask. Their knowledge of the local waters helped countless fishermen enjoy successful days on the lake. During hunting season, the shop also served as a community check station where hunters brought their deer to be weighed and recorded.
The bait shop remained a fixture of the community until it closed in 2000, having served countless families, fishermen, hunters, and travelers over the years.
Today, the building has been thoughtfully transformed into the short-term rental known as Scott & Betty's Place. Many of the original materials from the historic structure have been preserved and repurposed, allowing guests to experience a piece of its rich history. The renovation was completed by Scott and Betty's grandson, who restored the property for his own sons’ enjoyment—and now for yours.
